Booking the China Experience

Q. Who is Peregrine Travel Group?

ANSWER:

The Peregrine Travel Group is the official supplier of the China Experience ground itineraries. In 2010, Peregrine Travel was the exclusive distributor of Shanghai World Expo tickets in the United States. Peregrine Travel Group has its own network of offices in major Chinese cities (Beijing, Shanghai, and Xian), enabling them to deliver unique ground products and customer support during your journey in China. The Peregrine Travel Group strives to deliver the highest level of service every step of the way.

Q. How far in advance do I need to book my trip?

ANSWER:

To ensure air and hotel availability, we suggest you book your trip as far in advance as possible and at least 60 days in advance. For reservations made less than 60 days before departure, payment in full is required.

Q. How do I make my reservation?

ANSWER:

For reservations, contact our travel professionals directly at 1-855-MY-PEREGRINE or 1-855-697-3734.

 

Hours of operation: Monday to Friday 7:00am to 5:00pm PST. Saturday/Sunday closed.

Q. At the time of my reservation, what documents should I have available?

ANSWER:

When making your reservation, please have available:

 

  1. Passport information for all travelers including:
    1. Name (as it appears on your passport)
    2. Passport Number
    3. Citizenship
    4. Date of Birth

      Additionally, we require a copy of each passport from all travelers on file. Please scan and email a copy to ChinaExperience@PeregrineTravelGroup.com.

  2. Credit Card Information.
  3. Emergency Contact Information
  4. 4. Special dietary requirements (if any)

Q. Why do I need to provide a copy of my passport upon booking?

ANSWER:

For us to comply with China's security requirements, we require a copy of each traveler's passport with the following information:

 

  • Name (as it appears on your passport)
  • Passport Number
  • Citizenship
  • Date of Birth

Q. Why do I have to provide my name as it appears on my passport?

ANSWER:

For security reasons, name changes - including minor spelling corrections - may require airline reservations to be canceled and rebooked. Reservations are then subject to availability and rebooking. And, additional fees may apply.

Q. How will I receive my travel documents (ie. e-ticket, receipt and trip itinerary)?

ANSWER:

Upon confirmation with your paid deposit, your full trip itinerary will be emailed to you at your designated email address.

 

Within 14 days prior to departure, you will receive all final travel documents by email, including travel voucher for the land tour (including details of daily schedule, name and cell phone number of the guide in each city), e-ticket for the international air, and 24/7 emergency contact number for Peregrine Travel Group in China.

 

All of our travel documents are in electronic format. Domestic air within China do not require e-ticket. You show your passport at the airline check-in counter to get your boarding pass.

Q. I don't live near a Cathay Pacific gateway city (SFO, LAX, JFK), can I book a connecting flight?

ANSWER:

Yes, you can purchase a connecting flight to one of our Cathay Pacific gateway cities for an add-on price.

Discounts/Extended Stays

Q. Are there discounts for children?

ANSWER:

Yes. Children under 12 at the time of departure, will receive a discount on the package. Please refer to the price list. No child price is available for the Business Packages.

Q. Since there is a stop-over in Hong Kong, will I be able to purchase additional hotel and tour packages in advance?

ANSWER:

Yes. If you would like to stay over in Hong Kong, we are pleased to offer additional hotel. Please refer to the "Extension" section of each Tour Package for more details. No Hong Kong extension is available for the Business Package.

Q. Will I be able to extend my stay in any of the China cities?

ANSWER:

Yes. If you would like to extend your stay in any of the China cities, please notify our tour sales staff when making your reservation.

 

Deposits and Payments

Q. When are deposits and final payments due?

ANSWER:

  1. A non-refundable deposit of $500 per person is required at time of booking confirmation.
  2. Final payment is due 60 days prior to departure date. If Cathay Pacific does not receive final payment by this date, Cathay Pacific reserves the right to cancel the reservation without notice.
  3. For reservations made less than 60 days before departure date, payment in full is required.

Q. What are acceptable forms of payment?

ANSWER:

We accept all major credit cards.

Q. Are there additional charges I should be aware of?

ANSWER:

Yes. Any items of a personal nature that are not included in the trip itinerary will be your responsibility. (ex. Taxi and bus fares, gratuities, phone calls, passport and visa fees).

 

Changes and Cancellations

Q. What are the penalties for canceling my trip?

ANSWER:

Cancellation fees may apply as follows:

 

  • 60-45 days prior to departure; 20% of total price
  • 44-30 days prior to depature, 30% of total price
  • 29-15 days prior to departure, 50% of total price
  • 14-7 days prior to depature, 80% of total price
  • 6 days or less prior to depature, 100% of total price.

 

  1. Please note, a change of traveler's name, date or itinerary within 60 days of departure date will be treated as a cancellation and the following cancellation policy will apply.
  2. No refund if for any reason guests do not participate in sections of the tour. No exception is allowed.

Q. What are the penalties for changing my trip?

ANSWER:

For changes made beyond 60 days, a change fee of $200 per person per occurrence will be charged for any alteration or revision made (i.e.: name change, travel date change) to a reservation. Additional penalties may apply.

 

Chinese Visas

Q. Where can I apply for a Chinese visa?

ANSWER:

A Chinese visa is required.

 

Information can be found on the Chinese Embassy's website: www.china-embassy.org/eng/

 

You can also use a visa service such as VisaCenter.com.

Q. Where can I apply for a Tibet visa?

ANSWER:

If you buy a China Experience Package that includes Tibet, Peregrine Travel Group will help you obtain your Tibet visa for an additional fee.

 

The visa fee is USD 65 per person. 30 days is required to obtain the visa.

 

Travel Details

Q. What is the baggage allowance for my flights?

ANSWER:

For transpacific flights, two pieces of checked baggage, the sum of three dimensions of each bag cannot exceed 62 inches. The weight of each bag cannot exceed 32kgs/70lbs for business class and 23kgs/50lbs for economy class.

 

Weight limit for luggage for domestic flights within China is 44lbs.

Q. What are the tour travel start dates?

ANSWER:

Most of our tours are private tours, which means you have the flexibility to set your own departure date.

Q. Will I need to have a credit card to travel?

ANSWER:

Hotels will require a credit card at time of check-in for personal incidentals (not included in the tour pricing). If you do not have a credit card, you may be asked to leave a cash deposit. This amount will vary with each hotel.

Q. How many people per Premium Tour?

ANSWER:

There is no minimum persons for a tour. Each tour is for your party only and catered to your group only. Even if there is 1 person in a group we can accommodate.

Q. Is there a minimum age for children to travel on The Cathay Pacific Experience?

ANSWER:

There is no minimum age requirement for children to travel on The Cathay Pacific Experience. Minors under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

Q. To fully enjoy each of the sites/activities, is there a minimum level of fitness required?

ANSWER:

Please notify our tour sales staff regarding your concerns in advance of making your booking.

Q. In case of emergency, how will family members be able to contact me?

ANSWER:

The travel documents we email to you will include all contact information for your hotel. We suggest you leave a copy with an emergency contact person.

 

Travel Insurance

Q. Does the package include travel insurance?

ANSWER:

Travel insurance is not included in your tour package. If you are interested in purchasing travel insurance, please consult with our travel professional at time of booking.

 

Tour Details

Q. What is the "Cathay Pacific VIP Experience"?

ANSWER:

Cathay Pacific VIP Experiences are special venues that are generally NOT open to the public. These are offered by Peregrine Travel Group who serves as our designated land tour operator in China.

 

**Please note VIP venues may occasionally be closed for renovation, dignitary visits or holidays.

Q. Is gratuity included in the tour price?

ANSWER:

Gratuities for the local guides and drivers are not included, and are at the guest's discretion. Gratuities are not included in the tour price. Suggested gratuity for tour guide is US$5-$10 per person per day and for driver is US$3-$5 per person per day.

Q. Will our tour guide speak English?

ANSWER:

Yes. Each of our knowledgeable tour guides are fluent in English. Unless specially requested, our tours will always be conducted in English.
